School Meal Price Increase

Further information about the rise in school meals from £2.00 per day to £2.25

A very brief note was put into the newsletter this week (28th March 2008), which on hindsight does need a more detailed explanation for the parents/carers of St Andrew’s.

Most of our parents/carers will remember the situation about 3 years ago when the LEA stopped fully subsidising school meals. Indeed St Andrew’s kitchen had to close because of the costs. The school has been very successful in organising and providing cooked lunches now for over a year in our newly furbished servery. The numbers of dinners now served is far higher than when the school was operating from its own kitchen. I am confident that this is due to the much improved quality of the meal, in terms of healthier options, nutrition, good sized portions, balanced diet and quality of presentation. However, this has meant higher prices due to a very small subsidy for meals from our LEA, cost of transport, Government requirements for Food Provision in school (e.g. freshly prepared, quality ingredients etc) all of which have pushed up the price. This has meant the school is heavily subsidising meals from the school budget which results in unequal access to resources for pupils. The governing body has therefore made the decision to increase meals to £2.25 to balance some of these costs. Overall the extra £1.25 for the week does equate to much less than 2 bottles of milk – 2 pints 76p).

This note will appear in the newsletter on our return to school after the Spring Break, on the 18th April 2008.

Happy Holiday!

We wish everyone connected to St. Andrew’s an enjoyable and safe Spring Break Holiday.

Although the website will be on holiday too there will be the odd new item popping up – so keep checking!

School will return on Monday 14th April – see you then…

Playground Guidance Update

Thank you for following the new guidance on the playground in the mornings and evenings. Getting into school and out is much smoother and quicker. It has meant we are able to get all the children into school and ready for learning as soon as the morning bell has gone. Do remember that the class teacher and Headteacher surgeries are available if you need to talk to us. If the matter is urgent let the school office know and we will do our best to see you right away. Class teachers cannot be held up on the playground after the bell to discuss individual matters because, as you can appreciate, they have responsibility for ALL the children in their class.

If children are late arriving to school, please go to the front entrance and not to the door of the classroom. This allows us to make sure that they are properly included in all school registers.

Finally, if your child needs to use a school toilet after they have been released at the end of the day, they should do so by themselves. As you are aware, an adult accompanying a child to the toilet can cause embarrassment for other children, not to mention the vulnerability of the adult in these circumstances.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

After School Clubs – End Of Spring Term Arrangements

There will be no Art and Computer Clubs on Thursday 20th March, and all clubs are cancelled the following week (beginning 24th March).

As we have the Easter Fayre and Parents Evenings, dance classes are also cancelled but will resume after the Spring Holiday on Wednesday April 16th.

A refreshed After School Club timetable will resume after the Spring Holiday.

URGENT NOTICE FROM THE PTA

Unfortunately we haven’t had the usual good response to our appeal for Easter eggs and raffle prizes for the Fayre on Wednesday 19th March. If we are to make the Fayre a success we urgently need significantly more contributions.

We also need cakes and biscuits for refreshments on the day.

We hope everyone can respond to this appeal so we can make the Easter Fayre a memorable event for the children and parents of St. Andrew’s Primary School.

Thank you in advance for your support.
