Thank you for supporting the ‘Shades Day’ in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind.  We raised £94.00 towards the cost of supporting a guide dog through its training and working life.  Look out for the photos in the Halstead Gazette.  If you are interested in sponsoring a guide dog, we have ‘Sponsor a Puppy Appeal’ forms available in school or ring 08702406993.  Finley, the Guide Dog and Christine spent some time in each class and children were able to ask questions and find out more about disability.
DON’T FORGET – You can still donate your unwanted treasure for recycling for Guide Dogs i.e. coins, jewellery, costume jewellery, foreign bank notes, mobile phones, watches, keys.  Bring them into school and place in the box in the library.  Thank you.

PTA Planet is a website gateway to 800 or more online stores, like Amazon, Marks & Spencer, Next, Boden, PC World, Halfords and lots more of the places you already shop. You simply click through to the stores of your choice through the PTA Planet website, and every time you make a purchase, we make a little money!  Your support is the key to making this scheme work for us, as with most of the fundraising events we do. Please visit www.ptaplanet.com and check it out, and then just get in the habit of using it every time you shop online.

ERR/Phonics – Parents of Butler and De Vere classes requested the order and sound of the phonics taught.  They can be found on the school website in the Parents section.  You should be able to download to your desktop.  If you do not have the internet, please let the school know and they will provide a copy for you.

School Profile (Governors Report to Parents) has been published for the year 2007-8.  The School Profile is an overview of achievements and other information for the academic year 2007/8 at St. Andrew’s School.  It can be accessed on the school website, following the Governor link.  Copies are also available at the school office.

The PTA are working in conjunction with the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity and on the 16th September ‘Finley’ the guide dog will be in school working with the children and taking part in ‘Shades Day’. We will be finding out more about some of the difficulties and issues for persons who are partially or non sighted. We would like all pupils to come to school in their shades on Tuesday, 16th September and bring a donation of £1. On the day pupils will be taking part in activities such as blind trails and making a ‘pair of shades’ to take home.

Jewellery in School – Children are not allowed to wear jewellery in school i.e. necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings, other than very plain and small gold/silver studs. This is for health and safety reasons and is LEA recommended policy. Studs must be removed for PE and therefore if your child is unable to do this independently, then they must be removed for the day when your child has their PE lessons. You will be informed of the days your child has PE. The only time tape will be used to cover the studs is for about six weeks after piercing. We expect your support in this matter.

Teams around Schools, Children and Communities (TASCC)
TASCC will be providing a range of parent/carer support groups, mainly at Halstead Resource Centre, at different times. These will be posted in the outside notice board. Please take the opportunity to read this information and use some of the support on offer.

Lateness – If your child is late for school they are not allowed to go into their classrooms using the back doors. You should take your child to the front entrance and report any lateness to the office. The back doors to classrooms will not be opened to children in these circumstances, so please make sure your child is either on time i.e. lined up on the playground at 8.55am or accompanied to the front entrance when late.
