Monthly Good Behaviour Reward

Through class and school council, the children have decided they will have an extended playtime each month (an extra 15 minutes) to celebrate good behaviour as an alternative to ‘choc & pops’.  All staff will join the children, on the playground,  for their celebration to make it a special and recognisable occasion.

PTA Meeting – 2nd March at 9.00am

The PTA do still need more committed members if they are continue in the long term.  Please do come along and support them, if you can.  Without the PTA, the special events like discos, Fayres etc which are enjoyed by everybody and raise funds for the school and give the community an opportunity to gather and socialise together, can not take place.  Overall the time needed is not so great e.g. a termly meeting to discuss events and attendance at the events to support behind a ‘stall’.  The larger the group the less time commitment for  everybody.  We really do need you!!! Please join us if you can.

St Andrew’s – Regular feature in Halstead Gazette

We are very pleased and proud to have been asked to contribute to the Halstead Gazette Schools page, on a regular basis.  Every five to six weeks our children will take turns to report St Andrew’s activities and news to the wider community.

Valentine’s Disco

The children enjoyed the Valentine’s Disco organised by the PTA on Friday.  The adults had decorated the hall for the children beforehand with Valentine’s balloons etc, which made the event memorable and special.  A special thanks to the ‘new’ PTA for their time and enthusiasm supporting the children of St Andrew’s.  There are photos posted in the gallery for you to view.

PARENTS EVENINGS APPOINTMENTS

Tues 9th March & Wed 10th March – We will send a reminder to you after the half-term of the date and time you have chosen.

It is the practice of the school for children in all classes to attend parents evening and be part of the discussion and conversation.  Celebrating the children’s achievements and ‘next steps’ together reinforces the home school partnership and allows your child to share their views and to have a ‘voice’ in their learning process.

‘Love Your Community Week’

I have been speaking with Braintree District Council this morning about children and parents having a ‘bigger’ voice, in the Great Yeldham community, about their village.  Gemma & Nathan are coming into school throughout the week of 15th March to gain some feedback, through electronic questionnaires, about how our community can be developed for your use.  The children will be involved in saying what they like, dislike and what they might like to see in the future.  We have also organised a session for parents on the 23rd March at 9.00am to do the same electronic questionnaire and to be asked your views on how to improve our community for our families.

We hope you can join us on the 23rd March and the children, I’m sure, will inform you of the discussion and activities they have experienced the week previous.  What a great opportunity to get ourselves heard!!!

Easter Service

The Easter service date has changed to 30th March at 9.15am, in St Andrew’s Church.  Rector Keith Holloway, as many of you may know, will be retiring as Rector of GY and Governor of St Andrew’s School at Easter.  We are therefore holding a retirement thank you for Rector Keith and his wife Dorothy for all the support he has given the school and the community since joining us about 8 years ago.  Please join us if you can.  The Easter Service will finish at 10.15am and then we can all join back in the school hall to give our thanks.  If you would like to contribute to their retirement present from the school, please leave your contribution at the office and we will combine it with the schools.

WATERAID INFO – FUNDRAISING FOR LENT ‘Turn Buckets of Pennies into Buckets of Water’

We hope you are able to support us over the lent period by saving buckets of pennies. The idea is that we collect spare change in our homes then send it into school to be forwarded to Wateraid. The children will receive a container and sticker to help with starting to save before we break for half term so we can get underway with this very worthwhile project. Simply collect your coins and send them into school in the container by Thursday, 1st April. Or, alternatively, send them with your child to school to put in the central container as and when you have them. St. Andrew’s Church will also be part of the fundraising project.
‘It costs just £15 to give someone access to a lasting supply of safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene education’

PTA Update

The PTA met on Tuesday morning (2nd February) to discuss the events they are organising. We have a Valentine’s Disco on the 12th February, Easter Egg hunt on the 30th March and an Easter Fayre on the 31st March. A Summer Fayre has also been organised to follow the Sports Afternoon on the 15th June. Of course, any extra help will always be appreciated and is crucial to these events being successful. The PTA have agreed to give the school, from the fundraising, £500 towards the Asia garden planting and £100 to each class to subsidise the cost of their next educational visit. Their enthusiasm and commitment to fundraising for the children of our school is hugely appreciated. Thank you!

Parents Evenings – 9th and 10th March

On Thursday and Friday, 11th and 12th February, a choice of days and times will be available in the pavilion for you to make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher. These appointments will be on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and it will be your responsibility to sign up for your required slot. If you are unable to do this, an appointment will be allotted to you. We hope this gives better choice to the majority of parents. Thank you!
